Total "top-down" emissions inventory Minimizar
‘Top-down’ estimate of total emissions using gross statistical data and available emission factors to identify most of the local air emissions. Data collation and gap identification will be facilitated by contact with local and national traffic and statistical authorities (e.g. Dhaka Transport Coordinating Board, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics). Emission source classification (necessary for policy) to be according to that specified by other Bangladesh authorities, if available. In the absence of such a nomenclature, classification should be adopted from other Asian countries, Europe (CORINAIR/ SNAP codes) or the USA (US-EPA, AP42). The necessary four emission categories are:
a: traffic sources: acquire vehicle fleet numbers, fuel consumptions, driving distances, traffic flows, emission factors. Calculate total emissions per year per vehicle class
b: general industrial, and significant ‘problem’ sources: list all air polluting industries by location, acquire fuel consumptions, process description, raw material use. Estimate emissions per plant/type/total. Obtain intensity measures for potential problem industries, e.g. brick kilns
c: shipping and port emissions (Chittagong): acquire ship hours, and hours dockside per tonnage class with auxiliary engines running, emission factors. Estimate emissions per tonnage class
d: domestic burning: estimate fuel use per household per fuel type, estimate refuse burnt per household, acquire household numbers, acquire emission factors. Calculate total emissions per type
 
 
 
Detailed "bottom-up" emissions inventory Minimizar
Detailed type/location emission survey for dispersion modelling. The GIS based inventory software integrated in AirQUIS contains the necessary forms and functionalities for producing a complete emissions inventory. Requires completion of Excel templates for point sources (individual outlets), line sources (vehicle emissions from road links), and area sources (smaller or diffuse sources, e.g. home cooking, open burning, small industry). Templates have been supplied during the expert Missions. Further information for their completion will in part be available from previous WS1 work, and for the most important industries information will be collected using questionnaires.
 
 
 
Training Minimizar
To accomplish the top down and bottom up inventories, training will be given in types of emission inventorying, sources of information, practical matters, and applications for inventorying.
